Description
.This is a rare chance to acquire some unique fossils with great lapidary properties. These agatized coral specimens were acquired in the 1950’s by a US. Army doctor who was stationed in the Panamal Canal Zone. The stream-worn cobbles were collected from a remote site in the tropical forest in central Panama and transported by burro to the nearest town, Chilibre. The age is Miocene. The specimens are the genus
Montastria
, a colonial reef coral that still survives in the Caribbean region. Most specimens have one sawn surface that reveals the hexagonal cell structure. This lot consists of six specimens that have a total weight of 12 pounds.
