    Description

3 pound lots of agatized coral fossil from Madagascar scooped from  coral as pictured.Piece size runs approximately 1/2 to 1 inch by 1 to 3 inch. The number of pieces per 3 pounds will vary depending on the size of individual pieces but most lots run between 60  and 120 pieces and if you have a preference as to size please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate. This coral occurs in the Ordovician and silurian periods, and often form low cushions or branching masses alongside other corals. Their numbers began to decline during the middle of the Silurian period, and they became extinct at the end of the Permian period, 250 million years ago.The coral has long ago agatized or fossilized but still retains the classic coral patterns. This material can be polished to a great shine and cut to see some coral pattern or just studied as it is.The coral is very similar to Favorsite coral which can be found along the shore of Lake Michigan and commonly known there as Petoskey Stone.
