Girl's Civil War Style Simple Smock Type PINAFORE Size 4-5

Sweet and simple girl's size 4-5 100% cotton smock type pinafore or apron.
Sized for 22-23" chest and 20-21" waist. It is made of a pretty cotton percale embroidered with white work designs. The neck and arms eye are bound  period style using self-fabric bias. The pinafore is open in the back and closes at the top with three period correct natural shell buttons. For a dressier look, add a wide ribbon tie to match the child's dress.
It is 25" long with a 2 1/2" turned hem. It is a simple matter to add grown pleats to shorten the pinafore, or to add a ruffle to make it longer, so that the pinafore can be used for several seasons by a growing girl.
Pinafores were worn to protect children's clothing from soiling,. White was often used because it would stand up to repeated washings better than colored fabrics.
