Girl's Civil War Style Simple White Cotton Smock Type PINAFORE Size 6-7

Sweet and simple girl's size 6-7 100% cotton smock type pinafore or apron.
Sized for 24-26" chest and 22-23" waist. It is made of a pretty cotton embroidered with white work designs of leave and swirls and broderie anglaise ovals. The neck and arms eye are bound  period style using self-fabric bias. The pinafore is open in the back and closes at the top with three period correct natural shell buttons. Also included is a matching sash tie. For a dressier look, add a wide ribbon tie to match the child's dress.
It is 32" long with a 2 1/2" turned hem. It is a simple matter to add growth pleats to shorten the pinafore, or to add a ruffle to make it longer, so that the pinafore can be used for several seasons by a growing girl.
Pinafores were worn to protect children's clothing from soiling. White was often used because it would stand up to repeated washings better than colored fabrics, every-day pinafores were also made of left-over and repurposed pieces of material.
