    Description

1860's, Civil War Era style reproduction Glengarry cap. The cap is made of plaid 100% wool in red, navy blue, black white and forest green. It is lined with royal black broadcloth. It is decorated with red grosgrain ribbon with a gathered rosette set with a silver metal button with a swirling sun design. Matching ribbons hang from the V-shaped back.
The hat is size small and measures 23 1/2". The crown is 3 3/4" high.
Glengarry caps (or Glengarry Bonnets) have been thought to have been worn by the Scottish military since 1794.  The hat was adopted by men and boys in England. By the  time of the American Civil War, it was a popular civilian hat for ladies, children and men copied from the 1850's English fashions.
